The user menu

What the sidebar user menu shows and the actions it gives you: your account, organization switching and settings, theme, and log out.

The user menu is the control at the bottom of the dashboard sidebar. It shows who you're signed in as and gathers your account and organization actions in one place.

Open it

Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar. The button itself shows your avatar, your name, and your email; clicking it opens the menu.

Your avatar is your profile picture from your account. If you haven't uploaded one, it falls back to the photo from your login provider (Google, Microsoft, or another provider), if you signed in with one, or to your initials otherwise: the first letter of your first two name parts (for example, "Ada Lovelace" shows "AL"). If your account has no name set, your email address stands in for the name. See Your settings for the full avatar fallback chain and how to change it.

What's in it

  • Your avatar, name, and email repeated at the top, as a single clickable row (with a settings-wheel icon). Click it to open your account page, where a tab strip on the page itself switches between My account (name, language, time zone, theme), Security (password and sessions), and Notifications (which product emails you get).
  • Your current organization: one row with the organization's logo (or its initials) and name, whatever the number of organizations you belong to. Open it to reach the organization level, described below.
  • Organization Settings: a link to your organization's settings. It opens the first of General, Members, Roles, API keys, Billing, and Admin activity that your role grants access to (General, for an Admin). From there, the tabs at the top of the page switch between the others your role allows, so you don't come back to this menu to change page. If your role grants none of them, the entry isn't shown. See Organization settings below.
  • Theme: a three-way Light / Dark / System switch, right on the row. Pick one and the dashboard switches instantly. See Switching the theme.
  • Log out: ends your session. See Signing in and out.

Switch organization or create one

The organization row opens the organization level: the organizations you belong to, sorted alphabetically (accents and case ignored), with the current one checked, and Create organization at the bottom. Each row starts with a small round mark: the organization's logo if it has one, its initials otherwise. A logo that can't be loaded falls back to the initials. The menu stays the same height however many organizations you have, because the list lives in this level and scrolls.

  • Switch: pick another organization. The dashboard reloads under it, and the sidebar (sites, navigation, the user menu itself) shows the new organization without a manual page reload. You land on that organization's current site: the site you last picked in its site switcher or created there, or its oldest site if you haven't picked one in this browser. See Switch between sites. If a switch takes more than a second, a spinner shows on the row, and the other rows can't be picked meanwhile. If it fails, a Could not switch organization. message appears and you stay where you were.
  • Search: above five organizations, a Search an organization field appears at the top of the level and takes focus when the level opens. It matches the organization's name, ignoring case and accents. With five or fewer, there is no field.
  • Create organization: opens /onboarding/organization/new. It stays available while the list loads, if it can't be loaded, and whatever you've typed in the search field. See Creating another organization.

The list is requested when the dashboard loads, so it is normally ready when you open the menu. If it isn't yet, the level shows Loading… in its place. If it can't be read, the level says Could not load your organizations. and lists only your current organization; Create organization still works.

Organization settings

Organization Settings opens a single page titled Organization settings, with a tab for each settings page your role can see, in this order: General, Members, Roles, API keys, Billing, Admin activity. The current tab is marked. Pick another tab to move to it; each tab keeps its own address under /dashboard/settings, so bookmarks and shared links still work. On a narrow screen, the tabs that don't fit go into a More menu at the end of the row.

A tab only appears if your role grants that page. Opening a page's address directly without the permission shows a restricted-access message naming what you're missing, under the same title and tab row, with no tab marked. A role's own page and the page to create a role open without the tab row: they keep their own title and a link back to Roles. See Roles.

Looking for a specific site?

This menu is for your account and your organization. To switch between the sites in your organization, use the site switcher at the top of the sidebar instead. See Switch between sites.

On a narrow screen

On a wide screen, the organization row opens a submenu beside this one. Below about 860px wide (a phone, most tablets in portrait), the menu swaps to the organization level in place instead, with a back arrow at the top to return to the rest of the menu. Escape also steps back, rather than closing the menu. Organization Settings is a plain link at every width.
