The assistant can now answer from your own pages
AddedThe assistant used to answer from your catalog and your instructions only. A shopper who asked what is in a product, how to use it, or what your return period is got a partial answer or none, because that lives on your pages, not in the catalog.
Two new chat tools change that. They read the pages AISA has already read in Pages. They never fetch anything during the conversation.
- Site page content reads one page: its facts, its sections under their titles and, when asked, its shopper reviews. The assistant can name a product from your catalog, a page a search found, a path on your site, or the page the shopper is on.
- Site page search searches your read pages for a topic (delivery, returns, a size guide, a brand page) and returns up to eight, each with a short passage.
The assistant is told to look in the catalog first, to take price, promotions and stock from the catalog only, to say which page a fact comes from, and to say it has no information instead of answering from general knowledge. A safety statement (pregnancy, allergens, dosage) is made only when a page or the catalog says it. Shopper reviews are treated as opinions. These are instructions to the model, so check the answers in the playground on the pages that matter to you.
If your site has no catalog connector, Site page search also finds products from your product pages. The card links to the page and has no Add to cart button, and the assistant states the price as read on the date of the read, never a promotion or a stock level.
What you need to do
Both tools are on by default for a new Shopping assistant version. A version is fixed once created, so an existing version does not have them: create a new version and tick them under Chat tools. They can only read pages that are Read. Automatic reading is now on by default, but check Pages for the ones you care about.
The tools also appear on the Tools page, which now lists nine tools. While one runs, the shopper sees "Checking the page…" or "Searching the site…". Starter question generation is unchanged: it still reads the page's flat text.
