Phone links, relative links and footnotes work in the assistant's answers

Fixed

Three things in the assistant's answers did not behave the way a shopper expects. They are fixed on the hosted page, the web embed, the playground and the read-only transcript in the dashboard.

Phone and SMS links. A link such as tel:+33123456789 or sms:+33123456789 used to lose its address and show as plain text. It now stays a link, so a tap on a phone starts the call or opens the message.

Relative links and images. When the assistant wrote a link such as /cart or an image such as /img/sofa.png, the address was read against the page showing the chat, not against your shop. Now it is resolved against the URL set in the site's settings, so /cart opens https://your-shop.example/cart. Two limits:

  • A site has one URL. A shop served on several domains resolves relative links against that one URL only.
  • If the site has no URL, a relative link shows as plain text and a relative image does not appear. Full addresses, email links and phone links are not affected. Set the URL in the site's General settings to fix it.

A relative address that would end up on another host than your site's URL is also shown as plain text, never followed.

Footnotes. If two answers in the same conversation each had a footnote, clicking the reference in the second one scrolled to the note in the first. Each footnote now stays inside its own answer.

Nothing to change on your side, except the site URL if it was empty.

A conversation transcript with an assistant answer containing two phone links, a link to the cart and two footnotes listed under the answer, each with its own return arrow.
