Links in the assistant's answers open in a new tab
FixedBefore, a link in the assistant's answer opened in the same frame as the conversation. On the web embed the conversation sits inside an iframe, and a storefront or checkout page that does not allow being shown in a frame came up as an error page where the chat had been. The shopper lost the conversation.
Now every web or email link in an answer opens in a new tab, and the conversation stays where it is. This covers inline links, reference links, links written between angle brackets, bare web addresses and email links. They all behave the same, whatever web page or address they point to. The new tab gets no access to the page it came from and no referrer.
The same applies on the hosted page, in the playground and in the read-only transcript of a conversation in the dashboard, since they all display answers the same way.
Two kinds of link do not open a tab. A link to a spot inside the answer itself, such as a footnote, still scrolls within the conversation. A link with an unsafe address, such as javascript:, keeps its text but no longer links anywhere. Raw HTML written by the model was not turned into a link before and still is not.
Nothing to change on your side. Whether a given page loads inside a frame is up to that page, and this change does not affect it.
