The assistant now works on the shopper's own Shopify cart
AddedOn a Shopify store with the web tag, the assistant now adds products to the shopper's own cart, the one behind your store's cart icon and checkout. Before, it built a separate cart that your store did not show.
- An add shows in the store cart on the next page view. The cart icon and the cart drawer do not refresh on the page the shopper is on.
- The assistant sees what the shopper put in the cart on your site. Quantities the shopper changed are kept.
- It works the same for a shopper who objected to measurement. The shopper-facing data-usage notice now says the assistant reads the cart from the store's page and may create an empty one.
- The tag creates an empty cart if the visitor has none. It does this when the panel opens, through your store's own cart, which sets Shopify's own cart cookie even if the shopper adds nothing.
- Some things stay as before. The AI Storefront page, the Playground and other platforms keep a separate cart and its link.
- Your own analytics may not see the assistant's adds. The add is written from the server, not the browser, so your pixel, GA4 or Meta may miss it. The panel's
add_to_cartevent records it, and the Sales report counts the panel and your storefront as separate sources.
