How the AI shopping assistant handles your data
This assistant is provided by iAdvize on behalf of the store you're visiting. iAdvize acts as the data processor; the store is the data controller. For anything this notice doesn't cover, the store's own privacy policy is your primary source.
What we collect, why, and for how long
- Your conversation with the assistant (the messages you send and receive), so the assistant can respond and the store can review the exchange. Kept for 12 months.
- A cookie that lets the assistant recognise your own conversation as you browse. If your browser blocks that cookie, the same key is kept in the assistant's own storage instead and is no longer used after 24 hours without use, then deleted the next time the assistant loads. Strictly necessary to provide the conversation you asked for; it carries no other information about you.
- A key scoped to your browsing session, used to measure how the assistant is used (for example, whether it was shown and whether a conversation started). It is cleared when you close the tab. The measurement data it produces is kept for 24 months.
- Standard technical request data (such as your browser's language and the page you were on) needed to serve the conversation.
- Two values kept on this store's site so its pages can offer a way back to a conversation in progress: a record of when you last exchanged with the assistant and whether you hid the button, no longer used 30 minutes after your last message and deleted the next time you load a page of the store; and, when your conversation could not be found, a marker that turns the button off until you close the tab. Neither is sent to iAdvize, and neither identifies you. Objecting to measurement removes both and stops them.
- The page you were on when you sent each message: its address without the part after '?', its title and its description. Read only when you send a message, never as you browse, so the assistant can answer a question like “is this in stock?” without you naming the product. Kept with your conversation, for the same 12 months, and the store can switch it off.
- After your conversation, an AI model reads it to label it for the store: the kind of request, whether your question was answered, whether the assistant's replies were accurate, and what the conversation showed, such as an intention to buy or a hesitation about price, size or delivery. The labels describe the conversation, never you: no score per person, no link between your conversations, no targeting. They are kept with the conversation, for the same 12 months.
- The pages you view as you browse the store, counted as a daily total per page from each page's address without the part after '?'. Nothing in that total identifies you or links it to you, your conversation or another store. It lets the store's assistant prepare the pages people view most first. Kept 90 days, and the store can switch it off.
- When you add a product to your cart on the store's own pages, the add is recorded with the session-scoped key above, when your browser holds one: which product and how many, what that quantity is worth (amount and currency) and a reference to the cart, which is a random code. Nothing in it identifies you. It lets the store compare these adds with the ones made in conversation with the assistant. Kept 24 months, and the store can switch it off.
- When you place an order on the store, your browser reports it with the session-scoped key above, when it holds one: the order's reference, its amount before shipping and its currency, and the conversation key below when your cart carries it. Nothing in it identifies you. It lets the store count the orders placed on its site, with or without the assistant. Kept 24 months, and the store can switch it off.
- On a Shopify store, the assistant reads your cart from the store's page and sends it with each message, so it can show and change the cart you see. The key that gives access to your cart is used for that request only, is never stored by iAdvize and is never shown to the language model. If you have no cart yet, the assistant may create an empty one with the store's own cart. This applies whether or not you have objected.
- When the store runs on Shopify, each conversation gets a random key, stored with the conversation and added to your cart as an attribute. It lets the store tell which orders followed a conversation: the key contains nothing about you, and the store sees it on the order. Kept 12 months with the conversation, and months on an order we record.
- A measurement of how fast the assistant loads and responds on your device, sent to our hosting provider, with no cookie and no identifier.
The store determines the legal basis for this processing and states it in its privacy policy; unless it says otherwise, that basis is its legitimate interest.
How your messages are processed by the AI model
Your messages are sent to a third-party AI model provider. Every call carries zero data retention and an instruction that the content must not be used for training, asserted on each request.
Where your data is hosted
What the assistant stores durably is held within the European Union. Some processing happens elsewhere, and our sub-processor list says exactly what.
What we don't do with your conversation
We do not use your conversation to train or improve the assistant for other stores. This is a distinct purpose from the ones above, and it is not currently performed.
Objecting to measurement
You can object to the usage measurement described above from the chat panel's menu, next to "New conversation". Objecting stops the session-scoped measurement key and its related measurement data from being collected, and stops the performance measurement as well.
Objecting also stops your page views from being added to the daily page totals.
Objecting also stops the products you add to your cart on the store's own pages from being recorded.
Objecting also stops your browser from reporting the orders you place on the store.
Objecting also stops this key from being created and added to your cart.
Objecting also stops the conversations you have from then on from being labeled.
Your objection applies to this store only. Carrying it to another store would require an identifier able to recognise you across stores, which we deliberately don't create.
Objecting stops collection going forward. It does not delete data already recorded, which expires under its own retention period.
Deleting your conversation
You can delete the conversation you're currently in from the chat panel's menu.
Once you no longer hold the cookie that identifies your conversation, we can't tell which past conversation was yours, so a specific past conversation can't be deleted on request. That's the same choice that keeps us from recognising you across stores. It still expires under its retention period.
For any request this panel can't serve, contact the store: as the data controller, they are responsible for your data.
